Looking for a drivable destination? We love Gatlinburg, TN!
Drive time from Columbus: Approx. 6.5 hours
Drive time from Atlanta: Approx. 4 hours
Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, TN is the home to just over 4,000 residents, while taking in over 12.5 million visitors each year. After my visit to Gatlinburg, it’s easy to see why so many people take advantage of the natural beauty and all the attractions that Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains have to offer.
Whether you are traveling solo, looking for a romantic getaway, or wanting fun for the entire family, you will find Gatlinburg has something for you. You can stay in the heart of all the action with a hotel room just off the main street, or you can isolate out in a cabin out in the middle of the Park and reconnect with nature.
Of the many things to do in Gatlinburg, the “Can’t Miss” sight to see is Sky Lift Park home of the SkyLift, SkyBridge, and coming soon, the SkyTrail.
The SkyLift, the oldest running attraction in Gatlinburg, is ski lift type ride that goes up Crockett Mountain and is the only way to get to the SkyBridge. You’ll ride 1800 feet above the town that offers you some of the most amazing views of the Smoky’s 14 peaks, including the 3 highest points.
The SkyBridge, constructed in 2019, is the world’s longest pedestrian bridge that stretches 680 feet across a valley. It features 3 glass panels that offer you a view to the 180-foot bottom… if you dare look down! Soon, they will be adding 3 more panels to give you 30 feet of viewing of the down below.
If heights are not your thing, no worries, you will still have many other activities during your visit to Gatlinburg. Enjoy a Moonshine tasting at Ole Smoky Distillery , hike to one of the many Waterfalls in and around Cades Cove, or taking the kids to one of the numerous Kart Tracks and Miniature Golf Courses around the town. When you get hungry, grab one of the largest slices of pizza you may ever have at Slice Pizza Bakery.
My trip to Gatlinburg was just a taste of what it has to offer, and it is a destination you definitely need to experience for yourself! Our team at Uniglobe Travel Designers can help plan your trip to Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park - reach out to us and let’s get started!
