New Orleans is one of the most popular domestic destinations for our clients. From Essence Festival attendees to conference goers to bachelorette parties, it’s hard not to enjoy the amazing food and energy of the city. But after experiencing Bourbon Street and getting your Mardis Gras beads, if you’re looking to mix it up a bit we have some recommendations on the next city to explore.
If you loved the night life, consider Austin, TX...
Swap Bourbon street with 6th Street and Cajun cuisine with some of the country’s best barbecue. Austin is known as one of the top destinations for bachelor(ette) parties and has the nightlife to support it. You can listen to the New Orleans Klezmer at The Continental Club and then hop down to The Rose Room, one of Austin’s hottest clubs. No matter what you do in Austin you won’t miss the high, lively, energy.
If you loved the jazz, consider Memphis, TN...
Memphis has had some amazing artists come out of the city (B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Justin Timberlake, just to name a few). But if you loved the jazz in New Orleans, the "Home of the Blues" should be a city to consider. Head down to the Beale Street Entertainment District and the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum for an experience any music lover would appreciate.
If you loved the French influence, consider Montreal...
New Orleans is known for its’ french quarters, french holidays (Mardi Gras), french traditions. So if you couldn’t get enough of the begniets but don’t want to go all the way to France, then Montreal should be where you visit next. With one of Montreal’s official languages being French and the influence paralleling Spain’s influence on Mexican culture, Montreal will have the underlying tones you're looking for in its own unique way.
If you loved the climate, consider Southern Florida...
If you loved breaking away from the city to enjoy the wildlife and swamp lands, you don’t have to venture far to find the next subtropical destination. Everglades National Park is only an hour drive from Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Take a swamp tour or visit an alligator farm, then head to the beach later. Win-win.
If you loved the shopping and history, consider Charleston, SC...
While Charleston’s history is pretty different from New Orleans, the Civil War had significant impacts on both cities. Charleston, being one of the main slave trafficking ports and marts, is home to one of the most powerful slavery museums. There are also minor french influences that are visible in their French Quarters and amazing shopping in this sunny coastal town!
New Orleans is truly a unique city. While you won’t find another destination exactly like it, we’re here to help you plan the next adventure. If you're not ready to hand up the beads quite yet, we can help you get back to NOLA too!
